If you find that you cannot connect to RingVPN, the initial troubleshooting solution is to check that your RingVPN account is active and that there are no issues there. Do this by:

1) Securely logging in to your member panel at: https://ringvpn.com/en/manage-account.
2) Scrolling down to your RingVPN Account status to ensure that your subscription is still active.
3) Re-subscribing: if your account is inactive, navigate to Re-subscribe to reactivate it. Simply choose the plan to which you wish to subscribe -- you will be able to checkout immediately and get back online with RingVPN.
4) Still not solved?: If you've checked out the above 3 solutions and your account is active but you cannot get online, contact us at: support@ringvpn.com. Alternatively, you can contact live support by clicking on the icon on the bottom of your member dashboard at: https://ringvpn.com/en/dashboard.

If you are experiencing problems connecting to RingVPN, and have excluded basic account issues, you may need to adjust the configuration of your Windows app. Start by:

1) Changing between TCP and UDP protocols in your RingVPN app settings tab: Navigate this from Settings >Advanced settings> Protocol.
2) Swapping to another RingVPN server: Do this by navigating to the Countries tab in RingVPN by choosing a different server to the one you are currently connected to.
3) Resetting the application: Go to the Settings tab in your RingVPN app and scroll down to Show advanced settings, go to Diagnostics, click on Run Diagnostics tool. A new Window will then open and from there you can select the Reset app option.

If you receive TAP error or suspect that your Windows connectivity issues are caused by a TAP error, check your RingVPN logs from the app by:
1) Navigating to the RingVPN app.
2) Going to Settings > Show advanced settings* > Diagnostics -> Run Diagnostics Tool.
3) Getting the Diagnostics.
4) Opening the RingVPN app installation folder.
5) Locating the Diagnostics folder.
6. The default location is: located at C: \Program Files (x86)\RingVPN.
7) Finding a .zip folder with the date of the diagnostics. Example: 2019-25-07 15_24_30Z- logs.zip.
8) Double-clicking on the .zip folder and locating the service-XXXX-XX-XX.nwl file. Example: service-2019-03-07.nwl.
9) Double-click on the .nwl file to open it with a text editor, and look for the errors below.
10) Pay attention to error messages displayed: you might see one like: "FATAL:All TAP-Windows adapters on this system are currently in use."
If you see that error, you need to restart the TAP adapter. Do this by:
- Going to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change Adapter Settings.
- Searching for the local area connections with the under-name TAP- RingVPN Windows Adapter v9.
- Disabling it and enabling it immediately.
- Now, you need to attempt to connect again.
11) Instead, you might not see the error message above; you might see FATAL:There are no TAP-Windows adapters on this system. In this case, you should reinstall TAP drivers. You can download them here: [add links to TAP drivers for each version of Windows OS e.g. Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 9].

To share a wireless RingVPN connection from your Windows PC:

1) Start-off by ensuring that you are not connected to RingVPN at the start. You can connect later on this tutorial -- we'll let you know when!
2) Next, connect your Windows PC to your network by Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable.
3) Open Windows Search, type in "cmd," right- click the result you find and select Run as administrator.
4) Inside the Command prompt, type:
netsh wlan show drivers
5) Does the line reading "Hosted network support" display "yes"? If so, you can set up a virtual Wi-Fi adaptor on you computer. Yay!
6) If the line displays a "no," look for a different, newer version of your adapter drivers and install them. Alternatively, you can try to use another wireless card.
7) Next, in order to correctly configure the name and password shared network settings, type in the command:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=NetworkName key=NetworkPassword
8) Press enter and you should see a message telling you that the SSID of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
9) Congrats! In order to begin this new virtual network, you need to type in:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
10) Awesome! So that's started. Now you need to go to the Network and Sharing Center to set it up as a shared VPN connection.
11) Do this by right-clicking on the Network icon in the system tray, selecting Open Network and Sharing Center, and clicking on Change Adaptor Settings.
12) Here should be the brand new virtual RingVPN adapter . Right click on the TAP adapter and next, click on Properties.
13) Click to open the Sharing tab, enable the "Allow other networks to users to connect through this computer's internet connection" option, and then Select Local Area Connection.
14) Click OK.
15) Now it's the time for your to connect to RingVPN! Open the Windows RingVPN app and select one of our servers.
16) You've done it! At this stage, you've ensured that every device that connects to the "Virtual RingVPN" Wi-Fi network will be using your internet connection, connected to RingVPN.
17) This also means that the device will only experience internet connectivity if your PC is connected to one of our RingVPN servers.
18) Want to check the status of your virtual adapter at any time? Just type in:
netsh wlan show hostednetwork
19) A message shows that the hosted network cannot be started? Don't worry -- fix it by:
- Opening Run window with the keyboard shortcut Windows Button + R and typing in:
mmc devmgmt.msc
- Pressing Enter.
- Device Manager should now be open, so navigate to Network Adapters and right- click Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter.
- Final step is selecting Enable and performing this command again:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

3) Once the download has completed, go to
your Downloads folder.
4) Double-click the RingVPNSetup.exe installation file to open it.
5) If a window pops up and asks if you want the app to make changes to your device, click "Yes."
6) This is where the magic happens as RingVPN will begin to install on your computer!
7) Once the installation is complete, the RingVPN application will start and you will see the shortcut on your desktop.
8) To log in, double-click on the RingVPN icon on your desktop.
9) Enter your username and password, and click Sign In.
10) Select the server of your choice (according to location), or let us choose a server for you (according to speed), to connect and start enjoying the benefits of the best online privacy guardian!

1) You need to add exceptions for RingVPN.exe, ringvpn-service.exe and openvpn-service.exe to your firewall.
2) Using Windows Firewall? You need to add the following six exceptions (all of them!) for RingVPN to operate correctly. They are:
Three outbound rules: the first for "ringvpn.exe", second for "ringvpn-service.exe", and third for "openvpn-ringvpn.exe"
AND
Three inbound rules: the first for "ringvpn.exe", the second for "ringvpn-service.exe", and the third for "openvpn- ringvpn.exe"
3) If you use a non-Windows firewall software, navigate to the app settings to add RingVPN as an exception.
4) Do the same for your antivirus application in its settings - add exceptions for ringvpn.exe, rinvpn-service.exe, and openvpn- ringvpn.exe.
5) Next, you need to check that all of your Windows updates are installed and running. If you have pending updates, install those because some security updates that are not fully installed can cause trouble for RingVPN when it tries to run!
6) You're doing great, rock star! Next you need to change the configured DNS by going to C Control Panel > Network and sharing center > Change adapter settings.
7) Look for TAP-RingVPN Windows Adapter v9 in Local Area Connections.
8) Right-click and select Properties.
9) See the list? Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 and Properties.
10) Next, select Use the following DNS addresses and add our DNS addresses.
11) Final step is to flush your network stack by entering these commands, one at a time, in your command prompt as administrator:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset
netsh interface ipv4 reset
netsh interface ipv6 reset
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
12) You're done! Restart your computer and all should be adjusted so that RingVPN runs smoothly and gives you the highest level of protection when you surf, stream and download. Enjoy!

It's possible that you might need to change your DNS server addresses or change the default gateway, in order to ensure RingVPN runs smoothly with Microsoft Office, OneDrive or Adobe Cloud.

Sometimes, your server's Domain Name Server (DNS) settings become scrambled and misconfigure. Other times, you may have a particular DNS setting that you would like to use.

To change your DNS settings on Linux, you need to add name servers to the configuration file, by:

1) Opening the resolv.conf with an editor of your choice (such as nano).
2) Making the changes directly there, if the file already exist.
3) If the file doesn't already exist, use the following command to create it:
		sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf

4) Adding the lines for the name servers that you wish to use according to location, depending on which datacenter houses your cloud servers.
5) Finish by saving the file and then ping the domain names to check that the new settings are working using the following command:
		ping -c 3 rackspace.com
6) Congrats! You just changed your DNS server on Linux!

Because Linux has so many distributions (almost 600 and counting!), and to ensure that we give you the most accurate, bespoke and correct solution to your issue, we provide personalized Linux support.

To receive the benefit of this, please e-mail us at support@ringvpn.com with "Linux" as your subject line, and let us know precisely the problem, so that we can give you an individualized answer.

[General/network based]

IKEv2/IPsec is an Internet Key Exchange-based connection protocol that uses tunnelling. It was developed in order to be used with VPNs for maximum security -- IKEv2 is paired with IPSec.

On the pro side -- It's very popular with privacy honchos, and does pack some serious cryptographic punch potential.

Some hefty drawbacks about IKEv2/IPsec, however, are that it is closed-source (having been developed by Cisco and Microsoft), and can be very complicated to set up correctly. This means that, if it is not set up with the right parameters, it won't be as secure as it could be potentially, if done right.

Once setup is simplified, and made a little more user- friendly, we will support IKEv2/IPsec.

When supported, IKEv2/IPsec will be available in your RingVPN settings at Preferences > Network Protocol.

Until then, we think you will be more than delighted with the level of protection and privacy that RingVPN offers you with our native connection protocol settings -- which are the default and thus require no setup -- so no leaking and no mistakes that leave you unprotected when you think you are watertight and safe out there online.

They don't call us the online privacy guardian for nothing!

At RingVPN, we recommend that you use our own DNS server settings, rather than change them.

The RingVPN DNS Server Settings provide you with so much more than just a high level of default protection through a secure gateway protocol.

Our own RingVPN DNS settings also:

- Unlock Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services in some supported locations (e.g., United States, United Kingdom and Canada).
- Increase your overall privacy experience.
- Amp up the speed of internet traffic.
- Block ads and malware.
- Give you access to some blocked websites.

We most certainly are different! Unlike some other VPN services, we offer our own RingVPN DNS servers which have the added benefit of unlocking Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services, in certain supported locations. So, if you want to stream shows from the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada -- RingVPN has the key to unlock these! Also, we can give you access to some websites that are blocked in certain geo-locations, too.

No, you don't! RingVPN blocks ads and malware for you, so that you online experience is safe as well as without those annoying interruptions.

OpenVPN is an open source VPN protocol that is regarded as one of the most secure and popular, having passed many third-party security audits. RingVPN supports OpenVPN, as it is viewed as the industry standard when correctly implemented. It uses SSL/TLS for key exchange and provides complete authentication, confidentiality and flexibility.

RingVPN also implement OpenVPN protocol with proxy (http/https) in our extensions.

Of course we can! Any time you want to talk to a human, you have two options. You can e-mail us at support@ringvpn.com and we'll respond within 48 hours. Or, you can log into your member panel on the RingVPN website and initiate Live Chat to speak to our Tech Support magicians any time! Go to: https://ringvpn.com/en/dashboard and scroll down to Live Chat so we can help you!
